BB, I really appreciate your work on sky dancing, and I think you are very smart and correct in your views almost all the time. Thank you for turning me on to the blog, and for not censoring me anymore.
I must say, however, that occasionally I find what you say a bit doctrinaire, and not terribly well thought out. For example, just today you wrote, “since when are there rules for what we can hold against someone?” I’m sure if you stopped to think about that for a minute you could come up with a few such rules. The Law is full of them.
In the past, you have trashed me for being a self identified progressive, even saying “I despise progressives”. I still don’t know what you mean by that.
I have a lot more examples of our differences, but that is not my point in the main. It is this. I enjoy the sky dancing blog, and would like to be considered a participant in this worthy endeavor. However, when I see something that grinds my gears, I would like to have the right to say so. I understand that one of the purposes of this blog is to promote solidarity among like thinking folks, especially women, but there can be too much of a good thing. I submit that being self critical of the left party line can serve to inoculate us against attacks from some quarters. In any case, I am not going to stop offering opposing views when I think they’re called for, and I hope they are accepted as the constructive criticisms they are intended as. You can delete my posts or block me altogether, but I think that is just cutting off your own foot.
I admit that I have not always been a paragon of civility here, nor have I always been treated civilly. That’s OK. A few hurt feelings should not deter us from working toward the goal.
Sometimes, I think you tend to react defensively in a knee jerk fashion when you see something you don’t agree with. I have observed this in your interactions with others on the blog as well as with me. For example, are you still of the opinion that there should be no rules about what we can hold against a person? Whole professions, including yours, are largely concerned with just that question, and the answer is not yes. I think you were just lashing out, without thinking your statement through.
Anyway, I am happy either way. Either I am allowed to express my thoughts on sky dancing, or I just go away. I am not willing to sit and think about will this idea get me banned from the blog, before posting. I am sending this privately, as it is not my purpose to talk critically about you in public. I do hope we can continue to get along.
